About The Position

This is a seasonal position with an anticipated duration of 90 days. The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking exceptional Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN II) to fill a position on second and third shift. Oversees the maintenance of a safe, secure, and therapeutic ward environment by participating in the coordination of staff assignments with the charge nurse; provides total nursing care and serves as the primary teacher for medication issues and groups. Serves as a role model and provides leadership to staff in lower classifications. Maintain a person centered, trauma informed atmosphere and professional performance. Please Note: This is a seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. The work schedule will vary. Evening and Night shifts available. Seasonal positions do not offer employee benefits with the exception of sick time accruals. Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime. About the Cape Cod and the Islands Community Mental Health Center: The CC&I CMHC provides comprehensive services to adults and children. Programs include a 16-bed acute in-patient unit, Case Management, Day Treatment Program, and Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS). The CC&I CMHC is a Joint Commission certified facility. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in a written format, in English.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and individually.
  • Knowledge of care of special client groups, such as psychiatrically impaired individuals.
  • Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
  • Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as role model and provides leadership to staff in lower classification.
  • Follows hospital policy and procedures while providing nursing care to patients, administering medication, carrying out physicians' orders and individual treatment plans as well as coordinating with pharmacy and laboratory services.
  • Documents observations in patient’s carts and reports all relevant information to charge nurse.
  • Applies principles of psychiatric nursing care when interacting therapeutically with patients while assessing needs, discussing care, allaying fears and anxieties to provide a total therapeutic environment.
  • Respond to crisis situations and is able to initiate emergency care while working closely with other team members.
  • Ensure the optimum quality care is provided by serving as patient advocates, ensuring patient confidentiality and maintaining the human rights of all patients.
