About The Position

This is for a full time night shift Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position in the Emergency Department. Welcome to MedStar Franklin Square, a Magnet designated hospital. MedStar Franklin Square Emergency Department is a 62 bed department, with 18 flex beds, and a 9 bed Stroke Response Unit. MedStar Franklin Square is also a STEMI receiving and A Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Emergency Department sees approximately 70,000 patients a year and serves a diverse patient population. 1-year acute care experience preferred. Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program and have a Maryland or compact state nursing license. Prior Emergency Department experience strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
  • Active MD LPN License or Active Compact State LPN.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Rehabilitation or acute setting required.
  • New graduates considered based on student clinical experiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Emergency Department experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex.
  • Identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyze trends and changes in patient status.
  • Plan appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.
  • Organize, prioritize, and care for groups of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Establish effective relationships with the patient/family to facilitate the development of a patient-centered care plan.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to implement a plan of care and education to maintain and restore health and prevent complications.
  • Provide patient and family education about measures of health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients as assigned, including assessment data collection, medication administration, and activities of daily living.
  • Perform sterile and non-sterile treatments in accordance with Hospital policy.
  • Report changes in patient status to the RN and members of the health care team.
  • Collaborate with the RN on an ongoing basis regarding effective nursing interventions and patient care.
  • Provide direction and supervision of the patient care associates.
  • Serve as an advocate for the patient and family.
  • Participate in the orientation of staff members/students as designated by the Nurse Manager.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the unit objectives and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly patient/unit environment.
  • Foster a healthy work environment within the practice setting and profession.
  • Participate in self and peer review.
  • Promote professional engagement.
