About The Position

The position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Emergency Department at Atrium Health Cleveland. The role involves participating in patient assessments, recognizing the need for immediate intervention, and documenting patient observations and responses to treatment. The LPN will assist in developing and revising care plans, communicate significant changes in patient status to clinical staff, and implement care plans under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN is responsible for organizing their workload to ensure quality patient care and must maintain knowledge and competence in current nursing practices. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and support patients and medical equipment, and the role requires fluency in English and the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing required.
  • Current LPN licensure or temporary license as a licensed practical nurse petitioner required.
  • BLS certification required per policy guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient assessments and determines nursing care needs based on relevant data.
  • Recognizes and determines the need for immediate intervention.
  • Documents patient observations, treatments, and responses to care using the nursing process.
  • Assists in the development and revision of the plan of care by providing data and identifying potential goals.
  • Communicates with clinical staff regarding significant changes in patient status.
  • Implements the identified care plan under RN supervision, ensuring tasks are completed.
  • Organizes workload and prioritizes responsibilities for quality patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge and competence in current nursing practices and performs nursing skills within legal boundaries.
  • Documents assessments, procedures, and patient/family education in a timely manner.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of patient and family education under RN direction.
