About The Position

The Allergy Clinic LPN 7 performs a full range of duties and has knowledge and skills necessary to carry out specialized patient care in the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and is responsible for day-to-day operation of allergy and immunotherapy services at the assigned clinic location. This position requires the performance of higher-level duties which must consist of significant scope and complexity relating to Allergy and Immunotherapy patient care and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs allergy immunotherapy, skin testing and pulmonary function testing.
  • Receives new Allergy Clinic consults and coordinates plan of care including scheduling directives, coordination of outside records pertinent to Allergy appointment as well as pre-visit medical management preparation for potential skin testing.
  • Coordinates and communicates Allergy care plan information throughout multiple sites including Walter Reed, PACT, CBOCs, CIC, IFC and Traveling Veterans coordinator.
  • Contributes to the overall Allergy Health Plan and engages the Veteran in care plan implementation and goals.
  • Reviews and monitors CBOC Immunotherapy patient care plan and communicates frequently with CBOC staff.
  • Coordinates and assists with Allergy Provider and Nursing Immunotherapy site visits as determined for allergy care and annual staff Immunotherapy competency review.
  • Conducts chart audits to identify and provide staff education needs.
  • Recognizes signs and symptom of potential anaphylaxis and promptly notifies Allergy Provider, RN, and/or Rapid Response Team of observed condition and initiates Standing Orders and prescribed interventions.
  • Safely performs and Trains Allergy staff members on skin testing, immunotherapy shots, PFTs and Food Challenge Testing based on guidelines and competency.
  • Demonstrates Knowledge and skill in program management in this specialized practice to serve as a resource person in organizing and implementing more complex and specialized care to veterans receiving allergy and immunotherapy care.
  • Independently seeks out educational opportunities to enhance Allergy nursing knowledge and skills and provides leadership in assisting colleagues to expand nursing practice for Allergy and Immunotherapy patients
