About The Position

Join our 7 South team at UPMC as a Licensed Practical Nurse! You will provide care and IV therapy following UPMC guidelines and State Board Regulations, working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or other licensed UPMC provider in med/surg/tele or Emergency Department settings. This is a casual (PRN) position that will be required to work at least 36 hours every 6 weeks. 7 South is a telemetry medical-surgical unit that specializes in respiratory distress, COPD, heart failure, and post-op including ENT, watchman devices, urological, and gynecological procedures.

Requirements

• Graduation from a State Board of Nursing approved Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
• 0-2 years of experience.
• Completion of IV therapy curriculum within 4 months of hire/transfer.
• Ability to take nurse assignments at the top of LPN license in med/surg/tele or Emergency Department settings.
• Knowledge and skills to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages.
• Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
• Ability to assess patient status and interpret age-specific needs.
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities for patient care.
• Collaborate with health care team, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with all staff and patients/families.
• Work effectively in a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities.
• Mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
• Computer skills to utilize electronic health records.

Responsibilities

• Act within LPN Practice guidelines, including IVs, to create a healing environment.
• Formulate daily goals and care plans for patients, considering their individual needs.

• Provide patient and family education for effective care transitions.
• Seek guidance from a licensed professional nurse when patient care needs exceed your scope of practice or ability.
