About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at York Hospital involves providing nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. The role includes taking patient vital signs, assisting with procedures and examinations, administering medications, and helping patients with activities of daily living such as bathing and feeding. The LPN will also instruct patients and their families in appropriate care. The position is located in the 4 Southwest Intermediate Care Unit, which specializes in the care of patients 18 years and older with various acute medical diagnoses, some requiring mechanical ventilation, CPAP/Bipap, and high flow oxygen. This is a full-time position requiring 72 hours biweekly, with day/night shifts and every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays required.

Requirements

  • Certificate Program Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training Required.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse Multi State License upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire required.
  • Completion of accredited LPN program upon hire required.
  • Rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment upon hire required.
  • ACLS/PALS certification as required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and controls narcotics and medications under appropriate supervision.
  • Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Helps patients with mobility, including getting in and out of chairs and turning in bed.
  • Checks and charts patients' vital signs.
  • Monitors patients' medical conditions and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures.
  • Assists physicians with examinations and procedures.
  • Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Provides health care instruction and education to patients and family members.
  • Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records.
  • Performs various nursing administrative duties.
  • Ensures adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
