About The Position

A Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to implement treatment plans designed to improve patient mobility and manage pain.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate degree from a physical therapist assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
  • Licensure: Current state licensure or certification as a PTA.
  • Certification: Passing score on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for PTAs and valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build patient rapport.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing clinical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care: Perform therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, and manual techniques such as massage or stretching.
  • Modality Application: Administer physical agents including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction, and heat/cold therapies as prescribed.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe patients before, during, and after therapy; document changes in status and report findings to the supervising PT.
  • Patient Education: Instruct patients and caregivers on proper techniques for at-home exercises, wellness protocols, and the use of assistive devices like walkers or canes.
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure the treatment area is clean and equipment is sanitized.
