About The Position

Essential Job Functions: Duties Answer phones and greet patients. Assist the pharmacist on duty in processing prescriptions: Enter patient demographic and billing information in pharmacy information system. Enter prescription information into the pharmacy information system. Print prescription labels and information. Selects correct medication from inventory for prescription order fulfillment. Prepare prescription orders for verification by the pharmacist. Package verified prescriptions for delivery to the patient. Process patient payment via the pharmacy point of sale system. Assist patients in obtaining expense and expenditure reports. Responsible for addressing patient third party prescription insurance coverage issues. Verifies coverage status. Submits prior authorization requests. Communicates with providers regarding formulary compliance issues. Responsible for prescription renewal request submission and follow-up with providers. Responsible for management of prescription will call bin. Maintain competency in utilization of remote dispensing technology. Deliver medications to SHS Clinic and remote dispensing locations as required. Responsible for implementation of inventory control processes for medications and supplies. Receive and put away medication and supply orders from distributors. Utilize assistive technology for job duty completion. Perform routine cleaning and straightening of work area Responsible for performing outdated and recalled medication surveillance and processing. Maintain mandated logs. Filing of prescription and inventory documentation. Performs data collection for 340b auditing. Assists in training of new staff as required. Attends mandated staff meetings Attendance Employee must maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Shawnee Health Service policies and procedures. Employee must to report to work and be on time for each scheduled shift unless scheduled absent or on approved leave in accordance with federal and/or state law. Regular employee attendance is essential to the efficient operation of Shawnee Health Service and is an essential component of employee's job duties. Process Improvement Employee will promote a culture of continuous improvement by actively participating in team based improvement events that will support SHS process improvement goals and initiatives. Compliance with Policies/Procedures Employee will maintain compliance with Shawnee Health Service policies, procedures, and on-going education requirements. Employee will maintain compliance with program specific standards and regulations. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Health & Safety Employee will comply with all standard operation procedures of Shawnee Health Service regarding employee health and safety, including but not limited to OSHA regulations (Blood borne Pathogen Standard and Hazardous Communication Rules), Environmental Protection Act (EPA) regulations governing waste disposal, and completion of unusual occurrence reports. Physical Requirements Position requires standing for prolonged periods of time, frequent walking and sitting. Requires occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds. Position required occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting and stretching. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Required Working Conditions Climate-controlled medical office environment Licenses & Certifications Must have a valid Illinois driver's license and auto liability insurance on personal vehicles. Education & Experience Requirements: Mandatory High School Diploma or equivalent Illinois Pharmacy Technician License Preferred Two years pharmacy technician experience or equivalent 340B Program experience. Competency Requirements: Mandatory Must be competent in the use of computers. Must be capable of independent problem solving with moderate to little supervision. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have basic math skills. Must have cash handling skills. Must have organizational skills. Preferred: Bi-lingual Pre-Employment Requirements: Employee must pass all pre-employment requirements as delineated below. Employee's failure to pass all pre-employment requirements as determined by Shawnee Health Service shall result in employee's immediate termination, or, if not yet hired, withdrawal of job offer.
