Position Description: Under the direction of the Executives and Governing Body, the Administrator / Executive Director (LNFA) is responsible for the overall operation of the entire facility and all departments, including directing the day-to-day operational and clinical functions of the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern nursing facilities to assure that the highest degree of quality care is provided to our residents at all times. The Administrator directly manages all Department Head Directors and key personnel in professional specialty assignments. They also ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Must possess a current, unencumbered Texas Nursing Home Administrator License (LNFA).
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Business Management, Nursing, Health Administration, or other business/health-related degree is preferred.
  • Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 - 5 years successful experience as an Administrator in a licensed nursing facility.
  • Proven ability to achieve or exceed EBITDAR budgets and financial performance targets. Must be able to read and interpret staffing, budget, and financial reports.
  • Demonstrated success in census development and referral relationship management.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing home operations, the survey process, survey tag numbers, and quality measures.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of SNF reimbursement models across multiple payors.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate policies, procedures, regulations, reports, etc., to personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies/personnel.
  • Must be knowledgeable of computer systems, EMR system applications (preferably MatrixCare), and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to use critical thinking skills to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of MDS assessments, reimbursement regulations, and nursing practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing facility clinical administration.
  • Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. Must be able to maintain good personnel relations and employee morale.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care and maintaining a sound operation.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as must be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors, based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Financial management of the facility, ensuring operations operate within established budgets, limiting unnecessary or wasteful expenses, and maximizing revenue.
  • Census management and growth.
  • Lead and develop high-performance / high-accountability culture. Provide in-services and training to staff, managers and others, as necessary and required.
  • Ensures regulatory readiness and act as primary intermediary with State and Federal surveyors.
  • Lead facility’s efforts in state/federal surveys of the facility. Assist in providing survey team members with additional information during the survey that may aid in preventing deficiency citations.
  • Review deficiencies noted during the exit conference. Provide additional information that may aid in removal of the deficiency or lower the scope and severity level of a cited deficiency. Develop plans of correction for cited deficiencies. Ensure such plans incorporate timetables and methods of monitoring to ensure that such deficiencies do not recur.
  • Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents.
  • Regularly review the facility’s CASPER and Quality Measures data posted on the nursing home compare website to determine the accuracy of such public information. With the DON, take necessary action to improve scores and attain the highest possible quality outcomes.
  • Lead and manage the recruitment and selection of competent facility staff and caregivers.
  • Work collaboratively with all department directors concerning the operation of the facility to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services.
  • Ensure that an adequate number of appropriately trained licensed professional and non-licensed personnel are on duty at all times to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Schedule and lead required departmental meetings to ensure that appropriate information sharing is provided on a continuous basis.
  • Work with the Medical Director(s) in the development and implementation of medical and nursing services policies and procedures and professional standards of practice.
  • All other duties as assigned.
