About The Position

5 East is an oncology and medical step-down unit. The unit brings patients with cancer together with specialized nursing care. This allows nurses to care for patients with a newly diagnosed cancer, active cancer diagnosis, or patients with a history of cancer. All nurses hired are expected to obtain chemotherapy administration certification through the Oncology Nursing Society within one year of hire. The unit is also responsible for taking medical stepdown patients, these patients require more nursing assessments and could often times be on medications for irregular heart rhythms. Specialized training will be provided to care for this patient population. Nursing staff on this unit must exhibit exceptional teamwork and communication skills, and offers a very supportive environment for new nurses. Through the nursing career ladder program, nursing is encouraged to grow not only at the bedside, but also develop professionally with unit-based practice and system-wide quality improvements initiatives. Summary Under the direction of the Director and/or Nurse Manager, the Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care duties for a group of patients, from simple to complex, for the specialty population on the unit or department, under the guidance and supervision of the registered nurse.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Required: Proof of LNA Education Certificate and Final Report of Written and Clinical Competency Testing Results (as required by the NH Board of Nursing).
  • Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association.
  • Licensure required: Current New Hampshire State LNA license
  • Experience Evidence of the ability to perform as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Performs activities of daily living and personal care needs under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Performs technical skills/procedures relating to physical, mental health and social needs of patients under the guidance and supervision of the RN.
  • Documents care provided and reports to the RN observations of patient’s physical, social and mental status and basic patient data collected.
  • Demonstrates adherence to safe patient handling policy.
  • Demonstrates time management skills.
  • Maintains the patient care areas to ensure cleanliness, safety and supplies of material and equipment.
  • Receives delegated work adhering to the five rights of delegation.
  • Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as a preceptor for new employees.
