The Licensed Nurse Assistant is primarily responsible for the completion of patient care that has been assigned by the Registered Nurse. The LNA directly assists with providing care to meet patient hygiene needs, takes and records vital signs and weights, assists with transfers, ambulation and transportation, assists with food trays/nourishments, feeds patients and records intake & output, answers call lights and telephone, performs clerical tasks, assists with organizing supplies, applies/uses specified patient care equipment, and maintains a safe environment while performing care. The LNA performs other non-nursing tasks as assigned. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: The Medical/Surgical Units are located in two separate areas. The predominantly medical floor has 22 beds and the surgical floor has 7 inpatient beds and a Short Stay area consisting of 4 Barco-loungers and 5 beds. Each floor has a diverse population of medical/surgical patients. The medical unit on the third-floor cares for infants over the age of one month to the geriatric adult population and provides pediatric care, cardiac rehabilitation (Phase I), care for the more complex medical cases, and telemetry patients that are monitored by the Special Care Unit. The population of the surgical unit on the second floor consists of patients from infancy to the geriatric adult and provides care for major surgical cases, including joint replacements, and overflow Birthing Center patients. Patients that are terminating pregnancy are placed on this unit and care is provided in collaboration with Birthing Center staff. The Birthing Center consists of an outpatient room for two patients who need testing, two bed post-partum rooms, 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Post-Partum rooms, a new-born nursery, a border-mom’s room, and an Operating Room for Caesarian Sections. The Emergency Department consists of a trauma room. A cardiac room, a two-bed orthopedic room, two general exam rooms and a number of ancillary service rooms. Radio telemetry equipment is based in the Emergency Department and provides a means for two-way communication and Medical Control for ambulance companies which service southeastern VT and NH. The department is staffed by a physician at all times. On-call physician specialists provide consultation or definitive care as needed. The Special Care Unit is a combined Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit with 5 rooms. One room can accommodate respiratory isolation. Medical Directors of the ICU/CCU are responsible for medical management of the Unit. Medical care is provided by each patient’s attending physician. The Ambulatory Care Unit provides preoperative and postoperative care to patients from 6 weeks of age through the continuum of life, including preoperative assessment/education. Patients may also have minor procedures and endoscopy, with moderate sedation/analgesia.
