We are currently looking for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide onsite mental health support for participants in ongoing clinical trials for life threatening illnesses with the NIH in Bethesda, MD. The candidate must possess Independent Licensure (LCSW-C, LICSW, or equivalent) in any of the 50 states.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Must be a U.S. Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW-C, LICSW, or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working with medical patients with cancer and/or other life-limiting diagnoses.
  • Interested in being part of a team supporting clinical trial participants
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Hospital Based Social Work: 2 years (Required)
  • Independent Clinical Social Worker License (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Performs individual and family supportive and psychoeducational counseling about the patient physical and/or psychiatric illness and effective ways to cope.
  • Independently provides various treatment modalities, including crisis intervention, individual, family or group psychotherapy, emotional and environmental support and resource planning.
  • Provides education regarding adjustment to illness and managing protocol related logistics.
  • Develops recommendations and plans to address areas of identified need and provide ongoing care to help participants and families access needed services.
  • Identifies possible resources and services for which research participants and families may be eligible.
  • Discusses resource options with research participants and families and refers as appropriate, based on agreement and understanding by the participant and family.
  • Explains eligibility criteria and discusses needs, educates resource participants about agency and community resources and services for which they are eligible.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans based on assessments.
  • Provides short term counseling related to adjustment to illness and protocol participation.
  • Addresses and follows up on problems requiring clinical social work services, including behavioral health needs and/or coping difficulties impacting the ability to access services.
  • Provides clinical support to patients and families throughout the time they are participating in research protocols.
  • Makes recommendations for and implements appropriate discharge plans, including psychotherapy, community services involvement, special education and activity programs
  • Documents all patient contacts and interventions in accordance with Social Work Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Complies with agency and departmental standards for documentation of patient work and data collection for performance improvement and workload tracking.
  • Conducts interviews with patients and their families and caregivers.
  • Gathers selected information through in-person and phone-based interviews, medical record review and consultation with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Coordinates patient and family care with clinical center staff.
  • Participates in research group meetings and makes recommendations in the decision-making process regarding inclusion in studies and diagnosis.
  • Attends and participates in rounds and interdisciplinary team meetings in order to enhance team understanding of the psychosocial factors impacting research participants their health care and ability to comply with protocol participation.
  • Attends and participates in team and department meetings.
