About The Position

The Licensed Clinician is responsible for providing clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and stabilization support for Veterans experiencing emotional distress, mental and behavioral health challenges, or risk of suicide. This role plays a key part in assessing risk, stabilizing crisis situations, and ensuring timely coordination of appropriate levels of care. The Licensed Clinician is embedded within residential housing programs, including emergency and transitional settings, and works in close coordination with Case Managers, program staff, and external providers to ensure timely, integrated support. Clinical services may include crisis intervention, short-term support, and coordination with community-based providers to ensure continuity of care. This position begins as part-time, with a planned transition to full-time as program participation increases.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Active, independent clinical license in Massachusetts (LICSW required).
  • New Hampshire licensure preferred or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe (organizational support available).
  • Minimum of two years post-licensure clinical experience, preferably including crisis intervention, suicide prevention, or work with Veterans.
  • Ability to assess risk, make clinical decisions, and provide appropriate interventions in high-risk situations.
  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Services and Suicide Risk Assessment Conduct clinical assessments to evaluate suicide risk, mental health concerns, and behavioral health needs.
  • Address co-occurring mental health and substance abuse challenges as part of clinical assessment and intervention.
  • Provide short-term clinical support and crisis-focused interventions based on Veteran needs.
  • Develop and support clinical components of Personal Wellness and Safety Plans in collaboration with the Veteran and care team.
  • Provide suicide prevention-focused care that incorporates trauma awareness and emphasizes Veteran strengths and resilience.
  • Collaborate on individualized service plans to ensure clinical needs are aligned with overall care planning.
  • Crisis Response and Stabilization Respond to Veterans in emotional or mental health crisis, assess risk, and make appropriate clinical decisions, either in person or via telehealth.
  • Implement safety planning, monitor risk factors, and engage family or support systems when appropriate.
  • Coordinate and facilitate transitions to higher levels of care, including inpatient, VA-based, or community-based mental health providers.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication Support Veterans in addressing behavioral health barriers that may impact housing stability and transition to permanent housing.
  • Partner with Case Managers and program leadership to provide integrated support for Veterans.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Maintain communication with VA partners, behavioral health providers, and crisis teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Documentation and Compliance Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential documentation in compliance with program requirements and professional standards.
  • Track all clinical encounters, safety plans, and risk evaluations to support internal tracking and compliance.
  • Support reporting requirements and program evaluation efforts as needed.
