About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Creative Arts Therapist to join our team supporting the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) program in New York City. This role focuses on providing therapeutic art interventions to individuals receiving palliative care, enhancing their quality of life through creative expression and emotional support. About the HCBS Program The Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) program in NYC provides support to individuals with serious illnesses or disabilities, enabling them to receive care in their homes or community settings rather than institutional environments. Our art therapy services are designed to complement medical and psychosocial care, promoting holistic well-being and dignity for patients in palliative care. Requirements

  • Creative Arts Therapist licensed by the State of New York (LCAT)
  • Student interns practicing within the scope of the New York State Education law and supervised by a licensed practitioner in that profession can deliver HCBS; student interns and limited permittees can treat Medicaid enrollees under the supervision of a licensed practitioners in that profession who must be enrolled as a Medicaid provider
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach with sensitivity to diverse cultural and emotional needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in therapy practice.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized art therapy sessions tailored to the needs of palliative care patients within the HCBS program.
  • Utilize art therapy techniques to address emotional, psychological, and spiritual challenges faced by patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams including social workers, nurses, physicians, and other therapists to integrate art therapy into comprehensive care plans.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of therapy sessions, patient progress, and treatment outcomes in compliance with HCBS program guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support and education to patients and caregivers about the benefits and process of art therapy in palliative care settings.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to palliative care and art therapy best practices.
