About The Position

The Counselor/Therapist provides trauma-informed counseling services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence. This position is responsible for individual and group counseling, client screenings, timely documentation, and maintaining a consistent caseload of 20–25 clients per week.

Requirements

  • You are a licensed social worker (LMSW or LCSW) or licensed professional counselor (PLPC or LPC) in the State of Louisiana and have a minimum of a master's degree in one or more of the following: mental health counseling, social work or related field. Social workers or counselors must have regular supervision, consultation and/or review of cases, preferably by a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, or professional counselor, who is licensed in the state of Louisiana.
  • You have at least one year of experience providing individual and group counseling sessions to children, adolescents and adults in a clinical setting.
  • You have experience working in the field of trauma and understand the basic tenets of trauma informed practices.
  • You are knowledgeable about the principles of sound therapeutic practices with survivors of sexual trauma, including working with the continuum of sexual trauma services.
  • STAR requires all employees to consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial phone screenings to assess appropriateness for counseling services and make internal/external referrals as needed.
  • Provide trauma-focused individual therapy to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence.
  • Facilitate at least one virtual therapy group annually, with additional groups as determined by program needs.
  • Maintain a consistent weekly caseload of 20–25 clients to maintain full-time status.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all services in accordance with STAR's standards and professional ethics.
  • Ensure client files are organized, up-to-date, and meet compliance requirements
  • Contribute to grant reporting by documenting service delivery and outcomes
  • Stay current with best practices in trauma-informed therapy and sexual violence response
  • Complete continuing education requirements to maintain professional licensure
  • Participate in STAR's internal trainings and professional development opportunities
  • Assist with STAR trainings including, but not limited to, STAR's Core Training and community-based workshops
  • Collaborate with STAR staff across programs to ensure holistic, survivor-centered care
  • Participate in case consultations, staff meetings, 1-1 supervision with program director, and other program development efforts
  • Provide internal referrals to STAR services to support client needs
  • Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system
  • Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation.
  • Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement, as required by Louisiana law
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned
