Purpose of Position: Under the general supervision of a licensed Psychologist, creates treatment plans and activities for patients with a variety of neurodevelopmental disabilities including, but not limited to: autism, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities and related behavioral health disorders. Provides services applying principles of applied behavior analysis to design, implement, and evaluate environmental modification to produce socially significant improvement in behavior. Acts in compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and NYC Health + Hospitals rules and regulations and applied behavior analysis standards of care to improve outcomes and the patient experience.

Requirements

• Valid license and current registration to practice as a Licensed Behavior Analyst issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
• Two (2) years of post-licensure experience coordinating and providing applied behavior analytic services, including functional behavior assessments and analyses and individualized behavior intervention plans.

Responsibilities

• Provides applied behavior analysis services pursuant to a diagnosis of autism, autism spectrum disorders or related disorders. Conducts functional behavior assessment and creates behavioral programs based on function of problem behavior.
• Designs, implements, and evaluates environmental modifications, using behavioral stimuli and consequences to produce socially significant improvement in human behavior, including the use of direct observation, measurement, and functional analysis of the relationship between environment and behavior.
• Develops applied behavior analysis treatment goals, which may include self-help (i.e., brushing teeth, getting dressed, preparing meals, toileting), social interaction (i.e., greeting peers), managing problem behavior (i.e., aggression, noncompliance), language and communication (i.e., articulation, conversation), play and leisure skills (i.e., riding a bike) and safety skills (i.e., crossing the street, being aware of the environment).
• Develops treatment protocols and adjusts protocols based on data collection. Analyzes data to assess progress and refine treatment goals.
• Works with unit-based team (i.e., MD, psychologist, nursing or other authorized professional) to assist in developing and implementing Individual Behavior Plans.
• Provides education and instruction on data collection and implementation techniques of the Individual Behavior Plans to the unit-based staff members. Evaluates effectiveness of the Individual Behavior Plans using data collected.
• Coordinates care with family members, professionals, and paraprofessionals and conducts training with parents/guardians, community stakeholders, and staff in various inpatient and outpatient contexts.
• Leads individual and small group social skills groups. Keeps accurate records of evaluation, treatment service and each session, which reflect observation and measurement of behavior and behavior changes.
• Provides ongoing training to staff working on the unit about behavioral management and other strategies to ensure all staff are trained on how to work with dually diagnosed individuals and handle daily difficult situations that may occur.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.
