About The Position

The position is for an Athletic Trainer at Advocate Health, specifically within the Orthopedics Surgery department. This is a full-time role requiring 32 hours per week, with a schedule of Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, although days may vary. The role involves travel to various locations including West Bend, Germantown, Summit, and Waukesha. The primary responsibilities include performing injury assessments, communicating with patients and the medical team, establishing and implementing care plans, and monitoring patient outcomes. The trainer will also be responsible for documentation, outreach opportunities, and maintaining equipment. The position requires physical demands such as lifting and transferring patients, and the ability to work in varying environments.

Requirements

  • Athletic Trainer license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Driver license issued by the state of Illinois or a valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • No experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs injury assessments and refers patients for necessary care.
  • Communicates with patients to answer questions and instruct in self-care and prevention.
  • Communicates with the physician and medical team to determine the need for special tests or services.
  • Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results.
  • Monitors and evaluates outcomes and adjusts the treatment plan based on patient response.
  • Identifies factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort.
  • Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs.
  • Directs athletes in performance enhancement programs for fitness or sports.
  • Completes all required documentation following department policy.
  • Applies insurance guidelines for proper authorization of services.
  • Identifies and explores ways to enhance outreach opportunities in the community.
  • Responsible for clean up after patient treatment and maintenance of outreach equipment.
  • Performs various patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties.
