About The Position

The Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) at The Haven is responsible for providing clinical substance use disorder treatment services in accordance with Montana state regulations, ASAM criteria, and organizational policies. This position maintains an active caseload and is required to provide between 24 and 32 hours of direct client care per week. The LAC provides individual counseling services to assigned clients at a minimum of once per week, with additional sessions provided as clinically indicated. The position also requires facilitation of no fewer than three (3) group therapy sessions per week, each with a duration of two (2) hours. Psychoeducational groups and additional therapeutic services may be assigned based on program needs. The LAC is supervised by the Clinical Director and is expected to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and organizational requirements.

Requirements

  • Current licensure in the State of Montana as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC).
  • Current, valid Montana driver's license.
  • Proof of current automobile insurance that meets state requirements.
  • Successful completion of CPS and criminal background checks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, maintain a positive attitude, and function effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to assess and respond appropriately to the needs of adult clients, family members, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse populations while maintaining professionalism, adaptability, and a positive demeanor.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain therapeutic, trusting relationships with clients.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations, including availability outside of standard business hours as needed.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, emotional resilience, and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and maintain positive working relationships with staff, clients, and community partners.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills, including the ability to complete clinical documentation and enter required data accurately and timely.
  • Ability to drive agency-owned vehicles for client transport if assigned, in accordance with agency vehicle and insurance policies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ASAM and biopsychosocial assessments upon admission and as required for continued stay reviews.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans within established agency timelines.
  • Provide a minimum of 24 32 hours of direct client services per week, including individual and group counseling.
  • Facilitate at least three (3) group therapy sessions weekly, each lasting two (2) hours.
  • Provide individual counseling sessions at least once weekly per assigned client, with increased frequency as clinically necessary.
  • Complete all clinical documentation in accordance with agency policy within required timeframes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to coordinated patient care planning.
  • Provide family education and counseling sessions as appropriate to support recovery and discharge planning.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation as required.
  • Assist with discharge planning and coordination of care with outside providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Provide coverage across clinical service areas as needed, including intake, assessment, group facilitation, individual counseling, and case management.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.
