About The Position

The Library Technology Specialist will provide technical management, training, and advanced support for the University learning technologies. This role involves liaising with campus departments to coordinate and support web-based instruction, as well as developing web-based content to enhance the educational experience at Boise State University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience or equivalent professional experience.
  • Prefer degree concentration in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science.
  • Some positions may require a bachelor's degree or equivalent in department subject matter, including equipment/instrumental/lab experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise with desktop and server support with Windows, Mac, and Linux OS's.
  • Excellent application support skills (Windows and Mac).
  • Knowledge of makerspace technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, and their pedagogical uses.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with librarians, staff, designers, and other users to determine appropriate and effective solutions using instructional technologies.
  • Resolve escalated issues and coordinate with Tier 1 (Helpdesk), application administrators, and vendors to ensure timely and successful resolution.
  • Play a lead role in selecting, planning, and releasing new tools and features.
  • Analyze and interpret data to improve the use, management, or delivery of technical solutions.
  • Configure roles and permission settings for instructional technologies.
  • Manage interface design and display settings, coordinating with Marketing and Communication.
  • Manage, test, and deploy features and services.
  • Coordinate with vendors or other IT units to identify patches, hotfixes, etc., and participate in the testing and communication of fixes.
  • Lead exploration, communication, and testing of upgrades, new features, and new versions.
  • Document internal processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Create custom documentation for internal audiences (sub-administrators, eCampus Center, etc.).
  • Develop effective and efficient workflows both internally and for end users.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders (OIT, Operations, HR, eCampus Center, users, committees) to ensure broad input and endorsement of changes.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions about instructional technology.
  • Participate in committees and governance.
  • Work with Library faculty and staff to enhance library technologies used for teaching and learning.
  • Identify and recommend new software and tools that support the library's mission.
  • Manage and configure access to Library servers/services.
  • Manage application and OS updates for library resources, including scheduling.
  • Maintain and update software/hardware in the library computer lab.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Develop and document policies and procedures for the teaching/learning use of library technology.
  • Create/maintain instructional videos for lab resources.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of the Technology checkout program.
  • Assist patrons in the library with technology support.
  • Provide backup services for the Library's application administrator.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for the library maker lab.
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic electronic devices.
  • Deliver training/workshops on library technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Starting annual salary is $58,905 and is commensurate with experience.
  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's.
