The Library Technician position at Crater Lake National Park is a temporary, full-time role designed to assist permanent staff with library projects. The technician will be responsible for cataloging library materials, maintaining order in the library, and responding to reference requests. This position is crucial for ensuring the library's resources are organized and accessible to visitors and staff alike.

  • Enters new books and materials into the library system following established procedures.
  • Prepares new materials for reference files.
  • Performs copy cataloging by searching electronic catalogs and evaluating records.
  • Prepares and files catalog cards if a card catalog is in use.
  • Processes new materials and maintains order on the shelves and in the files.
  • Serves as site manager of the Crater Lake Science & Learning Center, scheduling the facility and overseeing its use.
  • Responds to internal and external reference requests and researches unusual requests.
  • At least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-05 level in the Federal service, including cataloging books and documents, maintaining library order, and responding to reference requests.
  • Experience in preparing materials for reference files and updating computer-generated indexes.
  • Experience with interlibrary loan functions.
  • Familiarity with library software and cataloging systems.
