The Library Technician position at Contra Costa College involves performing a variety of technical and specialized clerical duties within the college library. The role is essential for assisting students and faculty, managing library materials, and maintaining library operations. The technician will work closely with library staff and students, ensuring efficient library services and support.

  • Assist students and faculty at the circulation desk; charge, discharge, and file library materials.
  • Process reserve book and inter-library loan requests; locate materials and provide information regarding available library resources.
  • Maintain overdue and debt files for non-students; collect and record fines for overdue materials and issue receipts for lost library materials.
  • Compile statistical data and generate computer reports for librarians' use; file statistical data and compile end-of-semester and end-of-year reports.
  • Prepare book orders, requisitions, continuing contract orders, and library suborders.
  • Assist in monitoring student budgets and maintain accurate records.
  • Order, receive, and process library materials.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot library photocopiers, printers, scanners, and other equipment; assist students in proper usage and arrange for repairs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Two years of library experience in a technical or paraprofessional capacity, preferably in an academic library.
  • Possession of an Associate degree from an accredited college, with major emphasis in library technology preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of basic library science terminology, systems, and technology.
  • Familiarity with standard library practices and techniques, and library technical processes and software.
  • Ability to perform responsible and complex clerical work with accuracy and analyze situations for decision-making.
  • Experience working in an academic library setting.
  • Experience with library cataloging.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in higher education administrative software and library services platforms.
  • Competitive salary range of $51,120 - $62,268 per year based on experience and step placement.
  • Step increases based on eligibility occurring annually on July 1st until the maximum step is reached.
