Library Technical Assistant II - Stephen A. Schwarzman Building/General Periodicals Division
About The Position
The General Periodicals Division supports the library’s strategic priorities in ensuring that our researchers have access to our periodical collections in dedicated reading rooms for online, print, and microfilm. The DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room serves current issues of 1500 popular periodicals and 22 domestic and foreign newspapers. Thousands of periodicals on microfilm are requested through Rose Main Reading Room. Bound back issues of print periodicals are served in the Rose Main Reading Room. The LTA II position in the General Periodicals Division (GRP) provides excellent public service at the service desks for GRP. The position plays an important role in supporting the technical activities for GRP and in assisting visitors to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Customer Service Experience
- Demonstrated ability to handle high volumes of work while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Reliability and flexibility, as well as an ability to work well independently
Responsibilities
- Provides excellent public service at the service desks for the General Periodicals Division including preparation for the day
- Supports technical activities in the General Periodicals Division including checking in material, creating item records, submitting claims, processing titles, updating library holdings, maintaining processing statistics, periodicals and microfilm collection maintenance, and preparing materials for binding
- Assists users with library equipment [database PCs, audio & video workstation, microfilm scanners]
- Occasionally assists users with locating collection materials via the Research Catalog
- Processes new library cards and responds to inquiries about library card registration and policies
- Provides directional assistance to visitors
- Performs other related duties as required
