About The Position

The Library Supervisor of Youth Services & Outreach, under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, oversees daily operations for the Youth and Outreach divisions. This leadership role drives teamwork and excellence in the customer experience while coordinating dynamic programming and community partnerships. By collaborating across library divisions, the Supervisor ensures the effective delivery of youth-focused services and mobile outreach throughout the community.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in a public library with a focus on Youth and/or Outreach Services
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Experience planning programs and events
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital tool

  • MLS or MLIS from ALA-accredited program
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Budget, fundraising, and/or grants management

Responsibilities

  • Leads in creating an environment where customers have the best possible library experience and promotes high standards of customer service
  • Supervises, coaches, evaluates, and recommends the hiring of Youth Services and Outreach staff
  • Oversees planning, coordination, and evaluation of youth programming, including Early Literacy, Children’s, and Teen services
  • Coordinates and supports systemwide programming and outreach initiatives in collaboration with Youth and Adult Services divisions
  • Manages workflows, staff schedules, programming calendars, and daily operations for Youth Services and Outreach
  • Oversees deployment, scheduling, and routing of the Exploration Station bookmobile and other mobile services
  • Assists the public with reference, readers’ advisory, circulation, and information services
  • Interprets library and City policies and procedures to staff and the public and assists in resolving customer concerns
  • Assists with development, improvement, and implementation of policies, procedures, workflows, and organizational goals
  • Collaborates with Technical Services staff on collection development to support youth and family needs
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other City departments; serves as a library ambassador at community events
  • Works with the City’s Communications, Tourism, and Events department to promote library programs and services
  • Maintains statistics, prepares reports, and monitors performance measures related to youth and outreach services
  • Participates in preparation and administration of division budgets and operational planning
  • Serves as Librarian in Charge when the Assistant Director and Director of Libraries and Museums are absent
  • Stays informed of professional trends
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned
