The Library Services Technician plays a crucial role in the Library Services Department by completing daily operational tasks, providing customer service, and performing various library functions. This position involves direct interaction with the public through in-person, email, and phone communications, ensuring that patrons receive the assistance they need. The role requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours.

  • Respond to telephone, e-mail, written, and in-person inquiries from the public and other departments.
  • Provide answers and information requiring knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collect funds and issue receipts for library services.
  • Receive applications for service, determine eligibility, and adjust bills as necessary.
  • Post information to records and maintain accurate records.
  • Establish and maintain alphabetical, numerical, or subject matter shelves and displays.
  • Compile and organize information for reports and forms.
  • Initiate, process, prepare, record, and review routine paperwork and confidential information.
  • Assist in setup and teardown of tables and chairs for library events and programs.
  • Lead programs in the absence of the event organizer or if in an area of expertise.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • One year of experience in handling customers or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
  • Valid identification card from state of residence.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with coworkers and the public.
  • Ability to monitor activities in assigned areas and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Basic bookkeeping and recordkeeping principles.
  • Proficiency in using computers and related software applications.
