The Library Public Services Specialist I (Circulation) is a permanent part-time role within the Henrico County Department of Library, focused on providing excellent customer service in the Circulation Department. The position involves performing various public service duties, including circulation tasks, assisting patrons, and ensuring smooth material flow within the library system. This role is essential for maintaining high standards of service and support across multiple library locations.

  • Perform circulation duties including charging, discharging, shelving, processing holds, and sorting materials.
  • Assist customers at the circulation desk and library window.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons in person, via phone, and email.
  • Register patrons and manage fines and fees, including refund requests and barred accounts.
  • Process lost and damaged items and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Perform additional duties such as processing periodicals and preparing deposits.
  • High School diploma/GED; relevant college coursework or degree preferred.
  • One year of relevant customer service experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Experience in a library setting.
  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
