The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform manual and clerical duties in a library. Employees in this classification are closely supervised and are primarily responsible for shelving and organizing materials in the library. Other major responsibilities include answering general questions from patrons, preparing meeting areas, preparing displays and decorations, performing light maintenance and/or housekeeping, and assisting staff with a variety of tasks. Supervision is typically received from Librarians. This classification differs from the Library Assistant classifications in that Library Assistants are typically assigned to more technical tasks such as providing reference assistance and performing circulation duties.
