About The Position

The position involves teaching and managing a library media center within a school environment. The role focuses on fostering students' competencies in reading, listening, thinking, and viewing, while also creating a conducive learning environment. The individual will be responsible for maintaining the library's resources, assisting faculty and students, and implementing effective library policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Possession of Virginia teacher licensure with library media endorsement.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in the library media center and classrooms.
  • Tuberculin skin test certifying the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
  • Knowledge of classical and current children's and/or young adult literature.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching principles and methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree or higher in a related field for advanced degree stipend eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate and guide students in the development of reading, listening, thinking, and viewing competencies.
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and the general public to promote the school library media program.
  • Provide direct assistance to faculty and students in the teaching/learning process.
  • Implement policies and procedures for effective acquisition, cataloging, accessing, and maintaining equipment and resources.
  • Build and maintain a resource collection that supports educational objectives and goals.
  • Deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports to interact effectively with pupils, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Help faculty and students design and produce resources for the teaching/learning process.
  • Use electronic information sources and computers for library management and communication.

Benefits

  • Advanced degree stipend: $3,500/year for Master's Degree, $5,400/year for Master's Degree + 30 Hours, $7,800/year for Doctoral Degree.
