Position Overview: The Library Media Specialist serves as an instructional leader and information specialist who empowers students and staff to access, evaluate, and use information effectively. The ideal candidate will foster a welcoming, intellectually vibrant library environment that supports reading, research, technology integration, and inquiry-based learning. Applicants with additional teaching certifications and experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut State Department of Education Certification as a Library Media Specialist (Endorsement #062).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library management systems, instructional technology, and information literacy standards.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and student engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a secondary school setting.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and emerging educational technologies.
  • Passion for literature, inquiry-based learning, and student-centered education.

Responsibilities

  • Curate, organize, and maintain a diverse, inclusive, and current library collection in multiple formats.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy and digital citizenship skills into classroom instruction.
  • Support students in developing research, media, and technology skills aligned with Connecticut's standards.
  • Promote a culture of reading and literacy across the school community.
  • Manage library resources, technology tools, and digital databases.
  • Facilitate equitable access to information and technology for all learners.
  • Lead and model best practices in copyright, fair use, and ethical information use.
  • Oversee library operations, scheduling, and student supervision in the media center.
  • Participate in school and district professional learning and curriculum initiatives.
