Library Information Specialist Job Description/Job Function: To administer the Catholic school library program by providing the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure the library media center is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and Diocese of Arlington. ROLES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Leader- As leaders, library information specialists have a unique role that extends beyond the physical walls of the library promoting innovative best practices that meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and administrators. ? Align the library program with school-wide goals for student improvement including analyzing data to design instruction that enhances student learning outcomes ? Collaborate with administrators and teachers to incorporate critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, creativity, and innovation across the curriculum ? Instruct faculty on the integration of multiple information literacies ? Facilitate and/or coordinate professional development opportunities that promote best practices for utilizing resources ? Contribute to school improvement by serving on decision-making teams Program Administrator- As program administrators of the school library, library information specialists manage dynamic learning environments that provide all members of the school community access to information. ? Create library budget for administration approval ? Analyze data to curate library collections that support school goals and stakeholders ? Manage innovative technologies and library software ? Demonstrate knowledge of relevant issues surrounding school libraries and Diocese of Arlington policies ? Maintain physical library and organize resources to provide equitable access for all users ? Oversee support staff and/or volunteers Educator and Collaborative Partner- As educators, library information specialists empower learning and a collaborative culture that positively impacts school wide instructional goals and achievement and fosters information-literate learners. ? Instruct and model the effective utilization of digital resources to strengthen competency in the application of technology while maintaining an ethical digital footprint ? Provide instruction on the ethical use of information ? Collaborate with teachers to design and integrate inquiry skills to develop authentic student learning ? Guide students and parents to locate, evaluate, and curate resources for educational and recreational purposes ? Demonstrate knowledge of schoolwide curriculum ? Provide and advocate for equitable access to resources that align with curriculum goals and community values ? Participate in community partnerships that allow learners to connect locally, nationally, and globally ? Recommend and elevate literacy initiatives to encourage lifelong readers _____________________________________________________________________________________ Information Specialist As information specialists, library information specialists stay current and advise in all areas of information literacy. ? Develop and maintain resources appropriate to the curriculum and school community ? Evaluate, promote, and integrate existing and emerging technologies ? Read and share current and classic literature of all genres with students and staff
