About The Position

The Library Generalist (Part-time) position at Lake Michigan College involves supporting the library's mission by providing customer service and ensuring access to library materials for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Experience working in a library and/or community college setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of internet and electronic library research databases or similar required.
  • Strong computer/technology skills and ability to quickly learn new technologies required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to relate well to students, patrons, and colleagues.
  • Ability to handle book stacks weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work varied hours including evenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with social media management in a library context.
  • Familiarity with archival processing and management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and community members with library services, resources, and technology.
  • Answer general reference questions online or in person, circulate materials, and shelve returns.
  • Troubleshoot library technology questions (hardware, software).
  • Assist with copy cataloging and edit records in the online catalog integrated library management system.
  • Assess, process, organize, and file archival materials under the direction of the College Librarian.
  • Process interlibrary loan requests for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Maintain stacks, including shelf reading and inventory of all print materials.
  • Assist with collection maintenance and deselection of library materials.
  • Create book displays and write book & DVD reviews to promote the collection.
  • Manage library social media.
  • Distribute overdue notices and manage end of semester holds.
  • Assist Library Operations Specialist in hiring, training, and supervising library work study employees.
