About The Position

Plans, directs and supervises the operations of a library division which includes multiple major services areas of the Library, i.e. Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation, Collection Development, Mending, Processing, and Shelving. Serves as a member of the Library's executive staff. Performs professional librarian and management duties. Hires, trains and supervises professional, technical, and clerical employees. Manages and troubleshoots all processes and activities related to Integrated Library System, including usage, training, and coordinating with IT. Prepares and administers the division budget. Conducts research and prepares reports requiring compilation and analysis of data. Responsible for completion and accuracy of necessary records and reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or a related Masters degree
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a professional librarian
  • At least two years in a management position
  • Thorough knowledge of professional principles, practices, procedures and techniques of library and information science and library administration
  • Thorough knowledge of the literatures of the liberal arts and of management principles and practices
  • Ability to perform in any major service area of the library
  • Skills in operating a computer and related technologies as applied to library and information science
  • Ability to deal appropriately with people in situations that may become confrontational, stressful or uncomfortable
  • Ability to manage numerous tasks and assignments at a time with frequent interruptions
