The position involves providing direct services to library users, supervising Circulation Student Assistants, and carrying out routine circulation functions. The individual will provide primary day-to-day oversight of the library building in collaboration with other on-duty circulation staff, including carrying out building opening and closing routines as needed. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required. Responsibilities include assisting patrons with borrowing and returning items, resolving account issues, and providing basic information about library resources while referring patrons to a librarian for specialized instruction. The role also includes participating in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of student assistants, as well as stack maintenance and providing work direction to student assistants in various tasks. Other duties involve conducting searches for overdue items, processing found items, assisting with cataloging specialized items, and maintaining course reserve services. The position may also require communication with the University Police Department regarding security issues and reporting physical plant issues to appropriate personnel.
