About The Position

This job supports our Technical Services-Serials unit of the Library Division. The primary duty of this role is to oversee our serials collection.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Experience: None
  • Knowledge: Routine software and business applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Windows, and databases. Integrated library systems software, collection maintenance applications, cataloging tools, and web applications for library operations and functions.
  • Skills: Proficient in general office equipment. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong customer service skills. Skill in customer relations both internally and externally. Fine motor skills, attention to detail, and accuracy. Possesses strong interpersonal, communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, peers and library staff at all levels, management, citizens, and library users. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Creatively solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of library experience in Technical Services is preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing incoming materials/content, including physical books and AV materials.
  • Create and maintain serials holdings records.
  • Check-in and process serials.
  • Support collection maintenance efforts, such as weeding and re-balancing the collection.
  • Provide support to the catalog and collection librarians and assist with special projects as needed.
  • Assist with the selection of materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
