About The Position

Branch Manager 3 will oversee the day-to-day-operations of multiple library sites or a large, single library branch, ensuring policies and procedures and executed effectively and efficiently. They will encourage staff contributions and personal professional development while fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible work environment. The Branch Manager 3 will lead a team of library professionals who are committed to creating a thriving library in the heart of their community as they support and build a strong partnership with library patrons and their local official(s) ensuring the library is a welcoming space for all, and contribute to the overall success of the Riverside County Library System (RCLS). PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Manage day-to-day operations of the library branch(es), including project management, collection management, planning and prioritizing services, communicating effectively, leading teams, overseeing facilities and equipment. Coach and develop employees, establishing high standards of performance. Deliver recognition, support ongoing professional development and provide constructive and timely feedback. Practice effective problem solving, analyzing complex situations to identify underlying issues and develop creative solutions. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the community to enhance the image of the library, promote reading and encourage increased library usage. Work closely with Library leadership to plan, implement and promote the library strategic plan. Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, and a positive teamwork-oriented environment. Know, understand and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library; in addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies) Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records. Have a basic understanding of California Labor Laws Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MLIS preferred, BA/BS required.
  • Three years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Three years of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge is preferred.
  • Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers preferred.
  • Experience analyzing and applying reports and data (financials, usage, demographics, trends, etc.) is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; able to communicate well with people of all ages, demographics, ethnic backgrounds and ability levels.
  • Strong professional ethics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technology skills with the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of computer equipment/programs, digital devices, e-resources and new technologies.
  • Demonstrated time management skills.
  • Ability to function under flexible and changing conditions, with the ability to problem solve and diffuse tense situations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred due to frequent interaction with Spanish-speaking patrons.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
  • Occasionally lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
