About The Position

The Library Associate position is responsible for creating amazing experiences for our library patrons. You’ll work cooperatively and effectively with others to deliver excellent service, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness. You’ll provide leadership support to your department supervisor in the areas of operations, usage data, training and collection support.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of customer service experience preferred
  • 3+ years of social media proficiency preferred (TikTok, Goodreads, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Excellent listening and communication abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Calendar, Spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate via telephone, e-mail, and social media.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of elementary education or childcare experience preferred
  • Experience with Polaris preferred
  • Experience with Canva preferred
  • Experience with digital resources (Libby, Overdrive, Kanopy, LibCal, etc.) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Continually looks for opportunities to have library patrons feel welcome and connected to library materials and services.
  • Assist patrons with locating materials or the reference desk, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
  • Assist with circulation activities including patron orientation, check-in-out, creating displays, shelving, etc.
  • Designing and facilitating age-appropriate programs, such as story times, book clubs, maker activities, and educational workshops.
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.
  • Curating, maintaining, and weeding library collections (children’s/teen/young adult books and digital resources) to ensure diversity and relevance.
  • Collaborating with local schools, daycares, and community organizations to promote literacy, host visits, and deliver services.
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Assist department supervisor with overseeing staff scheduling and supply ordering.
  • Serve as a department representative to the Staff Team Building committee.
  • Serve as the lead trainer for your department for new staff members as well as cross training.
  • Assist department supervisor and Office Administrator with recruitment and interviewing for departmental vacancies.
  • Assist department supervisor in preparing monthly activity reports and general day to day operations for your assigned library areas; to include general opening/closing activities, overseeing monthly Staff Google Doc page, marketing, safety checks, and checklist data planning and updates.
  • Oversee the ongoing grooming of the assigned library areas collection.
  • Regularly compile department report data as needed for the Library Director.
  • Manage social medical by posting general library updates to the library’s Facebook page including special hours, holiday closures, flyers, and special marketing programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
