About The Position

The Youth Library Assistant plays a vital role in promoting literacy and library usage among young patrons and their families. This position involves developing and implementing programs, assisting patrons in finding resources, and maintaining library collections, all under the guidance of the branch librarian and Youth Coordinator.

Requirements

• At least ninety semester hours of undergraduate work at a recognized college or university.
• Knowledge of basic computer applications.
• Patience, courtesy, and a helpful attitude are required.
• Completion of a bachelor's degree at a recognized college or university is preferred.
• Previous library experience is also preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in customer service or educational settings.
• Familiarity with children's literature and films.

Responsibilities

• Encourage reading and library use through storytimes and literacy-based activities.
• Develop and implement special services and outreach programs for youth.
• Assist young patrons in locating books, films, and other information.
• Instruct and assist patrons with the operation of computers and other technologies.
• Help maintain library collections and oversee branch operations in the absence of the supervisor.
• Create youth programs tailored to the needs and interests of library patrons.
• Promote library programs and services to the community and assist with outreach activities.
• Record daily activity statistics and prepare daily cash reports.
