About The Position

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Library Assistant I to assist with organizing and providing assistance to librarians with the maintenance of the library and audiovisual materials. Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
  • No library experience required.
  • Intermediate computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Excel, Word, Publisher, database management, and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Must have a current and valid class 'C' driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality service and promote a welcoming library environment.
  • Assist library patrons by registering borrowers and issuing library cards.
  • Keep records of new registrants.
  • Assist patrons with researching and obtaining information from the library or archival collections.
  • Assist with the operations of the café shop.
  • Plan and coordinate library events and cultural programs.
  • Draft press releases and set up for events/programs.
  • Catalog and process new and donated materials.
  • Repair books, DVDs, and audiobooks, and withdraw damaged/dated library materials.
  • Provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.
