The Contra Costa County Library Department is seeking to fill multiple full-time Library Assistant Journey Level positions. These positions are integral to the Library's mission of enriching lives by providing high-quality services and fostering community engagement through literacy and reading. Library Assistants will be assigned to either the Library Department or the Sheriff's Office, with an immediate vacancy for a part-time Spanish Bilingual position at the Bay Point Library. Bilingual employees will receive a $200 monthly pay differential, and a proficiency test is required for this role. The eligible list generated from this recruitment may also be utilized to fill part-time, full-time, or permanent-intermittent vacancies as they arise. The Library Department is a dynamic civic institution with nearly 400 employees serving 26 communities throughout Contra Costa County. It is committed to providing exceptional services and ensuring equitable access to library resources. The Library has implemented various programs to promote community engagement and has notably eliminated fines to enhance accessibility. The Sheriff's Office, which also employs Library Assistants, is recognized for its professionalism and progressive approach, managing innovative detention facilities and providing comprehensive patrol services across the county. Library Assistants will be responsible for a range of duties, including customer service at the front desk, assisting patrons with locating and selecting library materials, processing library materials for circulation, and supporting reference staff in programming. The role requires adaptability to changing situations, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in diverse communities. Candidates should be organized, customer service-oriented, and capable of handling complex customer service issues.
