About The Position

The Library Assistant III provides library support and is located at the Rinker Campus in Irvine. The Library Assistant performs and coordinates specialized library functions including but not limited to circulation, stacks or collection maintenance, technical processing, gathering statistics and library outreach. Provides student, staff, faculty, and community patron assistance including responding to in-person, telephone, and other inquiries. Participates in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising student employees. Conducts machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of photocopier and digital displays. Provides routine transactions such as managing study room reservations, charging, discharging, and renewing materials. Comprehensively explains library policies and procedures, resolves problems, and assists in the acquisition of library materials. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one year professional work experience at a library or an equivalent combination in education and experience related to the position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library technology, processes, and procedures, preferably in an academic library.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve disputes.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to carry out and assign prioritized multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner, make appropriate decisions based on sound judgment, policy, and guidelines.
  • Technical aptitude to learn new computer applications and administrative systems.
  • Ability to understand, discuss and apply policies, procedures and proposed changes, as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides student, staff, faculty, and community patron assistance including responding to in-person, telephone and other inquiries.

  • Provides routine transactions such as managing study rooms reservations, charging, discharging, renewing, and reserving materials.
  • Comprehensively explains library policies and procedures, resolves problems, and assists in the acquisition of library materials.
  • Collects and compiles statistics including patron counts, activity in circulation, and collections.
  • Prepares reports regularly and as needed.
  • Assists with outreach events and updating digital signage.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing department mail.
