About The Position

Under general supervision, to perform and supervise a variety of responsible paraprofessional library tasks in departmental areas; to plan and execute programs for children and young adults; and to assist patrons with reference questions.

Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in a public library is preferred.
  • One (1) year of customer service experience is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience working in the field of education or early childhood service is preferred.
  • College level course work in early childhood development and/or education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian, develop and conduct informative and entertaining programs for children and young adults.
  • Review books and materials for possible acquisition by the library.
  • Maintain departmental files.
  • Work with audiovisual materials in conjunction with programs.
  • Assist patrons in areas such as explaining policies and procedures, locating and utilizing requested materials, assisting in programs using premise facilities, assisting in research in a variety of areas, and the use of library instruments.
  • Assist as needed in all circulation functions including registering patrons, checking out material, discharging material, and taking payments.
  • Provide reader’s advisory assistance to children, young adults, and adults.
  • Operate a City or personal vehicle weekly to travel to various sites for programming purposes.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
