About The Position

The Orem Public Library is currently hiring for part-time Library Assistants to work in the Childrens Reference area of the Library. This is a non-benefited position responsible for providing general and in-depth reference and advisory service to library patrons, assisting and instructing patrons in the use of library resources (including digital media), assisting patrons at the reference desk with tasks such as issuing library cards and handling money, and working with patrons regarding overdue accounts. Library Assistants will also perform bibliographic research and data entry, and a variety of clerical duties such as typing reports and minutes, answering phones, and scheduling volunteers. The ideal candidate will be someone who is energetic, excited to work with children, self-directed, and motivated to accomplish department projects and goals. Requires expertise in children's literature, music and film, adult and teen literature, and Internet research. Also requires thorough knowledge of sources and procedures used in bibliographic research and public library reference work. Must be familiar with digital and electronic resources and library services. Knowledge of library techniques, operations and procedures, and a general knowledge of the world of information. Public service and previous library experience is preferred. Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and a criminal background investigation. Spanish language skills preferred.

Requirements
