The part-time Archives Assistant at Framingham State University plays a crucial role in supporting the university's archives under the guidance of the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at assessing, accessioning, organizing, and processing both existing and incoming collections. The Archives Assistant will be responsible for the re-housing and reorganization of the University Special and Archival Collections, ensuring that materials are properly cataloged and accessible for future use. This role is designed for individuals who are detail-oriented and possess a strong understanding of archival practices and standards. In this position, the Archives Assistant will assist with the arrangement and description of unprocessed archival collections, which includes preparing and updating finding aids in accordance with DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard) and EAD (Encoded Archival Description). The role also requires the creation of preliminary inventories and container lists for both new and existing collections. The assistant will perform various administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and scanning, all of which are essential to maintaining the integrity and organization of the archives. Additionally, the Archives Assistant will need to analyze and identify archival materials that may contain sensitive content, which could necessitate restrictions or transfers to appropriate departments. This position is part-time, requiring approximately 15 hours of work per week, and is classified as a non-benefited contract role with an hourly pay rate of $20. The successful candidate will report directly to the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian and will have the opportunity to work on various projects as directed.
