About The Position

The Library Aide position is designed to assist the librarian, teachers, and students in the library. The aide will be responsible for organizing, circulating, and maintaining all audio/visual equipment, as well as supporting the educational environment by helping students and teachers access library resources effectively.

Requirements

  • Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate
  • Keyboarding and computer proficiency and computation skills preferred
  • Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents
  • Have experience related to working with students or parents

Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily records of all equipment leaving or entering the building
  • Order repairs when service to equipment is required
  • Maintain equipment for teachers to include replacing bulbs
  • Maintain inventory records of audiovisual equipment, ensuring enough equipment is available
  • Order all media (VHS, filmstrips, sound film, books) from the Instructional Resource Center for teachers
  • Maintain records of when equipment is returned by the teacher and IRC
  • Deliver media orders
  • Supervise library student workers
  • Maintain three separate calendars to ensure each teacher receives the proper equipment for media order on requested date
  • Assist students locate books teachers have requested, teach students how to use the card catalog and review students in the use of the Dewey Decimal system
  • Assist students to use the computer to locate books by name, title, or author
  • Assist teachers by reading reference materials for use in the library or classroom
  • Assist in disciplining the students to maintain proper behavior in the library, as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of library books checked in and out by students and staff on the computer
  • Organize, circulate, and maintain collection of videos
  • Assist teachers, as needed, with students in computer programs, supervision, and discipline
  • Start computers and boot the edunetics system every day
  • Order all library supplies, as requested
  • Maintain records relating to collection of money for fines and lost books
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials for teachers to be used in the classroom
  • Laminate materials for faculty and students
  • Shelve books and keep shelves in order
  • Schedule classes coming to the library
  • Oversee students who work in the library during the day
  • Check books in and out; assist in inventory of books
  • Comply with directions and instructions from supervisor, perform other tasks, and assume such responsibilities as may be assigned
  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate teamwork in daily activities
  • Be prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently
  • Meet attendance standards and comply with campus notification procedures for absences
  • Provide complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Adhere to the district's safety policies and guidelines
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events assigned
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
