About The Position

The Librarian at Nacogdoches Independent School District is responsible for supervising and managing the school library/media center. The role focuses on providing services and resources that enable students to develop essential skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and utilizing information to solve problems. The Librarian serves as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser, ensuring the library/media center is integrated into the instructional programs of the school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement.
  • Three years of experience in a library/media center in a public school setting.
  • Knowledge of library science.
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students in locating resources and using research techniques.
  • Consult with teachers on the appropriate use of materials and assist in scheduling materials for classroom instruction.
  • Serve as an information resource for users of library/media center materials and provide staff development opportunities for teachers.
  • Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides.
  • Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of a community resource file.
  • Maintain schedules for instructional television programs and encourage the use of video programs for educational purposes.
  • Create a conducive learning environment in the library/media center appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
  • Encourage community and parent involvement in library activities.
  • Carry out discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school library.
  • Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in library/media services.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on findings.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
