This professional position within the County Library System works as part of the Programming and Collection Development Team. Under the direction of the Library Supervisor and Library Director, the Librarian assists in providing library services on location and through outreach for all ages—promoting lifelong learning, community engagement, and intellectual freedom. Requirements

  • Knowledge of literature, authors, and audiovisual media.
  • Understanding of child and adult learning and behavior theory.
  • Familiarity with public library in-house and outreach functions, ALA philosophies, and Code of Ethics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital technology and research.
  • Knowledge of publicity and visual design best practices.
  • Ability to present dynamic programs and improvise creatively as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s in library science preferred) from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience working with children and adults in educational or program settings.
  • Experience in presenting/teaching, program planning, and reader’s advisory.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional library services and customer service in collaboration with location staff, representing library leadership and policies through public-facing and behind-the-scenes work.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and best practices in literacy and librarianship.
  • Provide reader’s advisory and information services to patrons of all ages.
  • Perform collection development tasks, print and digital, that further collection diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility.
  • Develop and deliver engaging programs for all ages.
  • Identify and pursue outreach and mobile library service opportunities within our location communities.
  • Prepare program and publicity materials, including creative activities, props, displays, and handouts.
  • Maintain records and statistics for evaluation and planning purposes.
  • Communicate with schools, businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to promote and further library services.
  • Provide information and digital literacy support to public.
  • Provide peer mentorship and ILS support to onboarding staff.
  • Oversee volunteers and interns as needed.
  • Prepare program spaces—including moving furniture, props, and equipment—and manage accommodation requests.
  • Ensure courteous and respectful interactions with patrons, staff, and community partners.
