About The Position

Complies with and supports all Shiprock Associated Schools' policies and procedures. Integrates the school philosophy within area of work. Mends and maintains library materials, A-V software and equipment inventory. Supervises the checking in and out of library materials by students and teachers. Supervises students while they are in the library. Assists teachers, assistants, parents, and students in locating library, instructional, and audio-visual materials. Maintains card filing system. Maintains library books, materials, and equipment inventory by ALA Standards. Implements a planned, sequential program of effective instruction which will include teaching of library skills at each level as stated in the curriculum to literature groups and assisting in specific research. Uses a variety of teaching methods and materials that address student learning rates, levels, and styles using new technology. Creates a motivational atmosphere in the library that encourages independence in the use of information that promotes a student's desire to learn. Integrates major topics from the curriculum into the library media enter instructional program through regular planning with the faculty. Maintains teacher resource room and materials. Demonstrates an understanding of and respect for cultural diversity and diverse learning styles. Ensures that patrons have full and equitable access to library materials, resources, and services. Applies and supports the principles and procedures of intellectual freedom in providing access for students to materials and information, and in providing instruction regarding their use. Upholds and models appropriate behavior regarding copyright laws in both use of materials and in instruction regarding their use. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices contemporary self-assessment techniques for personal professional growth. Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum and exhibits communication skills necessary for collaborative planning of curriculum and lessons with teachers. Helps students interact with each other by fostering a spirit of cooperation and willingness to work together. Performs other duties as assigned, within your scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Must have a valid State of New Mexico Professional Licensure with Library/Media endorsement.
  • Ability to work effectively with Native American students, staff administration and the general public.
  • Experience in automated Library circulation.
  • Must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
  • Must have or able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit.
  • Must be able to meet minimum physical requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Must pass federal background check required per 25 C.F.R. Part 63.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or applicable field.
