About The Position

The Youth Services Librarian plays a vital role in creating a dynamic and inclusive environment for children, teens, and their families by developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of engaging programs and services. Focused on fostering a love of reading and promoting literacy, this position provides valuable educational resources to the youth community. The Youth Services Librarian works closely with library staff to ensure a welcoming atmosphere that inspires learning, creativity, and a lifelong connection to the library.

Requirements

• Master degree in Library and Information Science or related field.
• Experience working with children and teens in a library or educational environment.
• A valid Texas driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develop, plan, and implement library programs and activities for children and teens, including story times, reading clubs, and educational workshops.
• Provide reader's advisory and reference services to children, teens, and their caregivers.
• Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote library services and programs.
• Select and manage the youth collection, including books, media, and digital resources, ensuring a diverse and inclusive range of materials.
• Maintain a welcoming and safe environment in the youth area, addressing behavior issues as needed.
• Create and maintain promotional materials, such as flyers, newsletters, and social media content.
• Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adjusting as necessary to meet community needs.
• Stay current with trends in youth services and participate in professional development opportunities.
