About The Position

The Teen Librarian will provide library services specifically tailored for tweens, teens, and young adults, focusing on reference, reader's advisory, and programming. This role is situated in the newly transformed Main Library and requires flexibility to adapt programming to meet the evolving needs of the downtown Durham community. The position involves collaboration with community partners and requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend shifts.

Requirements

• Completion of a master's program in library science from an ALA-accredited library school.
• Thorough knowledge of library resources, procedures, and systems.
• Analytical skills for evaluating community information needs.
• Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for a diverse community.
• Ability to plan innovative programs that adapt to customer needs.
• High degree of comfort learning new technologies.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate a robust schedule of diverse and engaging teen programs.
• Work under the direction of the Teen Services Manager and collaborate with the Teen Services unit and library staff.
• Collaborate with community partners to provide high-quality programs and services.
• Develop interactive community relationships to promote library resources for organizations serving teens.
• Provide instruction in information gathering, research, digital literacy, and college and career readiness skills.
• Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the Main Library Manager.
• Participate in system-wide teams and committees and assist with special projects supporting the library's strategic plan.
• Perform related tasks as required or requested.
