About The Position

The Librarian (Public Services) position in Ogden, UT, is a full-time role that offers a competitive wage ranging from $27.95 to $44.56 per hour. This position is part of the Library's management team and reports directly to the Branch Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the library branch, which includes managing staff, services, and various events and programs. The librarian will work at the reference desk, providing essential reference, readers' advisory, and referral services to patrons both in person and over the phone. This role also involves developing and presenting innovative programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community, such as book discussions, technology classes, and wellness activities. In addition to program development, the librarian will be tasked with collection management, which includes selecting, evaluating, and deselecting print and nonprint materials in accordance with established policies. The position requires collaboration with community partners to enhance awareness of library services and to promote lifelong learning and transliteracy skills among patrons. Supervisory duties are also a significant part of this role, including managing employee schedules, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring compliance with library policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited program and have at least one year of professional experience in a public or academic library. A strong knowledge of reference tools, current literature, and collection development principles is essential. The librarian must also demonstrate excellent customer service skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively. Physical demands of the job include lifting library materials, operating a computer, and maintaining the safety and appearance of library facilities. The work environment is primarily indoors, requiring flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, to meet the library's operational needs.
