About The Position
To manage the operation of the Library/Media Center in a manner which assures that it complements the instructional program of the school and each faculty member.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree and Kentucky certification for Library Media Specialist, and such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Searches for, evaluates, selects, and requisitions library/media center materials.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new books/materials the library/media center acquires.
- Maintains a comprehensive system for cataloging all media.
- Instructs segments in media skills.
- Works with teachers in planning assignments leading to extended use of library/media resources.
- Helps students to develop independent reference skills, including use of reference materials, in relation to planned assignments.
- Participates with the faculty in curriculum planning.
- Prepares and administers the Library/Media Center.
- Supervises aides in the performance of their duties.
- Prepares all required written reports and records related to the Library/Media Center.
- Is responsible for annual inventory of the Library/Media Center.
